Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

On the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and audience predictions about Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Will the showrunner Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to discard a good idea for a superior concept. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
