Pick of the Week
The Substance Film
The filmmaker's bold critique addresses the oppressive nature of women's appearance as well as the perceived horrors of growing older. The veteran actress offers a brilliant acting turn playing Elisabeth, a mature actress forced into starring in a fitness program on television. Forced aside by her deceitful superior her manager Harvey, she undergoes a secretive and gruesome procedure known as the Substance. This creates a new version of herself portrayed by Margaret Qualley, culminating in a steadily more toxic connection among both women. This Friday, the streaming service Paramount+
The Woman in Cabin 10 Film
This classic whodunit thriller includes Knightley in the role of Laura, a skilled journalist who takes a hiatus from covering world issues to embark on an opulent ship alongside a gravely sick Scandinavian billionaire and donor, her husband, as well as other filthy rich individuals. Presence Film
Steven Soderbergh pushes his directorial skills through this clever ghostly tale captured wholly from the perspective of the phantom. As a family with Lucy Liu as Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their fresh home, the camera – as the unseen entity – follows them around. The daughter appears aware of the poltergeist, and it seems defensive toward her. Yet what is the reason? This is an entertaining concept that remains concise, featuring a surprise you might not see coming. This Saturday, afternoon and evening times, Sky Cinema Premiere
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
The iconic actor embraces his cult stardom via this self-referential adventure. He portrays an egotistical celebrity playing himself who accepts a million-dollar gig to attend a festive event on the Spanish island for billionaire Javi Gutierrez. Recruited by the CIA to spy on the suspected cartel boss, his unconventional method proves useful. This Saturday, 9pm, the Channel 4 network
This Creepy Thriller
The director's claustrophobic thriller remains effective despite the lack of a follow-up. Taking place in 1978 Denver, several child abductions has made the local kids on edge. After Finney gets captured by “the Grabber” and held captive in a dungeon, he anticipates a fatal end. But the disconnected phone mounted nearby continues to ring, with spooky callers providing assistance, as the intuitive nightmares of his sister Gwen might rescue him. A solid creepfest. October 11th, late evening, on Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the struggle between faith and wealth, the victory is clear for materialism in Michael Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top true story of the disgraced televangelist and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield portrays the venal Jim, who proclaims early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals set about profiting from the American public's spiritual convictions. It's a riot of tacky decor, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, though the lead actress succeeds to depict the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, the Film4 channel

The current week's another release from Steven Soderbergh is a spy mystery as precise as the polo necks worn by Fassbender's UK spy.
