The network's Top Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this lovable family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
