The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple agonizing backstories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears stunning. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.

This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece from the official score of that title, the second release put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when cast member the performer wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.
