The Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting With Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first World Series after the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the forthcoming championship.
"It's incredible for everyone here, the city, the nation," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "This is such an incredible feeling."
Springer has now connected for 23 playoff homers, making him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another player anywhere that I'd choose in that moment except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the sole team yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but commended their efforts in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added.
Toronto's team secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
