Followers Demand Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the pop star are demanding that a man who leaped a fence and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers walked down a event pathway flanked by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though official papers showed that he was set to appear on the following morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a performance. His Instagram feed contains recordings of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user remarked.
Followers Voice Worry Over the Star's Safety
Numerous supporters blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said one more comment on Instagram.
A number of attendees also criticised event staff at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared surprised when she was approached by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of supporters had congregated in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The film, to be premiered on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed theatrical show Wicked, which centers on the unexpected bond between two very different characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a light pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful film of last year in the UK, and earned ten award recognitions, winning several for outstanding attire and set decoration.
