Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the soft-colored suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including various looks for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a true visionary whose impact on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
